Intelligent Office offers a range of consultancy services to the UK legal sector.  We have assisted clients’ drive a number of major change projects within their businesses and a core area of our expertise is maximising the value from a firm’s secretarial and support structure.  We use the depth of our understanding of working inside professional practices to bring our clients both insight and objectivity.  Part of our value is undoubtedly our ability to work with firms to define their future state organisational structure and strategy.  However, we also provide a wealth of experience and understanding on the practicalities of implementation.  Our focus is to seek solutions that optimise value and efficiency, often creating significant cost saving opportunities for our clients, whilst improving other critical requirements of support and secretarial functions such as service quality and a more flexible pool of resource.

·         Organisational redesign - The support structure within a firm may not be effectively utilised to minimise fee earner time spent on non chargeable activities. We will work with firms to explore and develop structural modifications to assist the business in transitioning to a successful and efficient model of support.  Working with other support areas in firms on their organisational structure assists us in identifying best practices and our vast experience of managing support services allows us to work with firms objectively to identify the structure which will most effectively meet their needs. 

·         Strategy - For any organisation or department to be entirely successful, there has to be a clear and communicated purpose and direction.  We will work with clients to elicit, communicate and act upon their strategy to ensure exceptional results are achieved. In the majority of cases, the strategy will result from a review of the current function within the firm and a report provided to develop the strategy and may lead to additional of our services being implemented, including implementation of structural changes, training and management coaching.

·         Project implementation and change management - Once the new organisation design and strategy has been set for a firm, we would work with the client to timetable, communicate, implement and project manage the desired changes within the business.  We would map out the change plan and ensure implementation takes place in a timely manner, either through existing staff within the firm or by bringing in additional expertise from the wider Intelligent Office team on a consultancy basis where required. 

·         Competencies and performance measures - Firms often neglect to appropriately manage and measure staff performance, not as a result of a poor management structure, but because the firms competency measures and performance management processes are not bespoke and are not comprehensivly adopted.  We would help the firm design tailored competency measures for their support areas and assist in building robust management tools within the business which will ensure the best staff are employed and retained by the firm.

·         Skills assessments - Once the competency levels and performance measures have been designed on behalf of the firm, we can work with our clients in the design and implementation of tailored skills assessments. These would be designed to assess existing staff performance levels with a view to implementing new structures and roles.  As a result, we will be able to make recommendations on the restructuring of existing staffing levels ensuring that skills are matched to the firms requirements.

·         Tailored training solutions - Training of staff is critical in ensuring the continuous improvement of the services provided to the firm.  We can experienced at creating and delivering a range of tailored training solutions that will meet the specific needs of our client.
